One year has passed since former-President Clinton signed the E-Sign Act legalizing the use of electronic signatures in commercial transactions. In addition to the mounting interest from the financial and manufacturing industries, numerous Federal, Civilian, State and Local, and Municipal governments have been replacing their pen and paper signatures with Silanis Technology’s electronic signature and approval management software.

E-Gov 2001, Washington, DC – July 9, 2001 - One year has passed since former-President Clinton signed the E-Sign Act legalizing the use of electronic signatures in commercial transactions. In addition to the mounting interest from the financial and manufacturing industries, numerous Federal, Civilian, State and Local, and Municipal governments have been replacing their pen and paper signatures with Silanis Technology’s electronic signature and approval management software.

Since last June, 80 new agencies have begun using Silanis’ ApproveIt® Desktop software to electronically sign a multitude of standard government documents and forms. Agencies include the entire U.S. Army Medical Command - representing 40,000 users - the U.S. Air Force Headquarters, Department of Treasury U.S. Mint, Air National Guard National Guard Bureau, several U.S. intelligence agencies, Stanislaus County (California) District Attorney Family Support, and the Kansas Department of Transportation. Currently, the U.S. Army Publishing Agency (USAPA) is in the process of e-signature-enabling forms, and Silanis’ software is also being used in the first government-to-business signing application by the Office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

“Silanis’ sheer volume of deployments illustrates the commitment from all levels of government to become e-governments,” said Tommy Petrogiannis, President of Silanis. “Our recently released ApproveIt Collaboration Server also accelerates government-without-barrier initiatives by enabling one agency to take part in an electronic approval process with other government or commercial bodies, without forcing the external partner to purchase an electronic signature solution.”

Silanis ApproveIt provides a turnkey, software solution that can be used with or without a PKI infrastructure to capture multiple, legally binding electronic signatures. What differentiates Silanis ApproveIt Desktop from other solutions is its: ease of integration with existing government processes; support for the most numerous and widely used government file formats and document types, including sectional forms requiring multiple signatures; tight security; and its ability to mimic a paper-based process which increases staff acceptance and adoption.
